Steps to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2026 school year
To start primary school in 2026, your child will need to have turned 5 years old by 30 April 2026. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.
An Information Night for Foundation 2026 families will be held in May 2025, date to be confirmed.
Due to Huntly Primary School being required to adhere to the Department of Education’s Enrolment Management Plan the following applies:
Enrolment is restricted to:
- Students who live within the school zone
- Students with a sibling attending the school at the same time
- Students seeking enrolment on legitimate compassionate grounds.
Enrolment Timeline:
Each year, the department releases the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline to Victorian government primary schools. The timeline includes key dates to help schools to plan for their Foundation enrolments. This also follows the release of 2026 zones on the department’s Find my School website. Before you get started please check if you are currently living in our school zone.
Foundation (Prep) Enrolment 2026 timeline include the following:
- Schools can receive enrolment forms from parents and carers who are currently living in our school zone from the start of Term 2, 2025. Your enrolment will be automatically accepted.
- In some circumstances, where families are not currently living in our school zone an “Application to Enrol” form will need to be submitted for approval by Friday 25th July, 2025.
- Schools will then notify parents and carers of the outcome of their application to enrol between Monday 28th July and Friday 8th August, 2025.
- Written appeals from parents and carers are to be lodged with schools by Friday 22nd August, 2025.
- Schools will notify parents and carers in writing of the outcome of appeals by Friday 5th September, 2025.
